The internal combustion engine is the leading power of transportation, engineering machinery, agricultural machinery, fishing vessels and national defense equipment, and the internal combustion engine industry is an important basic industry. The reliability of internal combustion engine directly affects the performance and service life of supporting equipment, and profoundly affects the sustainable development of internal combustion engine industry and related industries in China. Improving the reliability of internal combustion engines is also one of the important ways to help China achieve the "double carbon" goal. In 2015, Weichai Power contracted to build the State Key Laboratory of Internal Combustion Engine Reliability, the only enterprise in China's internal combustion engine industry.The laboratory has always taken tackling the common key technologies in the field of internal combustion engine reliability as its own responsibility, carried out technical research in the upstream and downstream of the industrial chain, and promoted the technical innovation of internal combustion engine reliability. It has achieved fruitful results in key areas such as basic theoretical research of reliability, reliability research of complete machine and key parts, and reliability prediction and evaluation, especially in the area of reliability from 1.2 million kilometers to 1.8 million kilometers.Since 2020, Weichai has successively released the world's first commercial diesel engine with body thermal efficiency of 50.23%, 51.09% and 52.28%, setting a new benchmark for global diesel engine thermal efficiency for three times, and leading China's internal combustion engine industry to the world-class level.
In November 2022, the national key laboratory of internal combustion engine and power system led by Weichai Power was officially approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology and became one of the first batch of national key laboratories to complete the reorganization. Based on the State Key Laboratory of Internal Combustion Engine Reliability, the laboratory integrates key research forces in relevant fields, aims to build a national scientific and technological innovation platform, high-level talent training base, a source of cutting-edge technology and strategic scientific and technological forces, and is committed to providing cutting-edge technical support for the high-quality development of the internal combustion engine and power system industry.In the future, it will take 5 to 10 years to break through a number of "bottleneck" technologies in the industry. The technology of internal combustion engine and power system will comprehensively achieve international leadership, rapidly break through 53% on the basis of 52.28% thermal efficiency of diesel engine body, and move forward to the strategic scientific and technological goal of 56%. The laboratory has no less than 100 foreign technical cooperation projects and no less than 30 open projects every year.The International Symposium on Reliability Technology of Internal Combustion Engines will be hosted by the National Key Laboratory of Internal Combustion Engines and Power Systems from the beginning of this year. At the same time, in combination with the new research direction of the National Key Laboratory of Internal Combustion Engine and Power System, the "International Symposium on Power System Technology" will be organized in the future to build a new platform for cutting-edge technology exchange in the power system industry, give full play to the supporting role of the new platform for the "industry-university-research-utilization" integrated chain innovation, and make every effort to build two flags for academic exchange of internal combustion engine and power system technology.
